With the holidays around the corner, some of you may be making arrangements for trips out of town.  How will you keep your home safe from theft this holiday?  I came across an article in this month’s issue for Today’s Parent that shares some great tips.

1.  If you plan to be away from your home over the holiday season, call to put any magazine or newspaper deliveries on hold.  Ask a friend or neighbour to pick up your mail until you return.

2. Burglars have been known to climb trellises, use ladders and garbage pails to access windows and doors that are not normally accessible.  Ensure that all windows and doors have locks.

3. Never leave keys hidden under an exterior door mat or in a fixture mounted near your entrance.  Instead, ask a trusted neighbour ro swap extra keys, in case you lose or misplace yours.

4. Turn down the volume on your phone ringer while you are not home.  Unanswered ringing is another dead giveaway to burglars that no one is home.
